Casual Friday: Berry-Cherry Smoothie

Happiest of Casual Fridays from Charleston!!
You know the drill. First we talk food, then we peruse random things on the Interwebs. We’re doing it extra quick and dirty today because the sun is shining, I’ve had 2 cups of coffee (read: I’m teetering on the edge of a panic attack), and I need to get to Xiao Bao Biscuit to meet Jessica Murnane(!!!!!) for lunch. Let’s do this.
This Cherry-Berry Smoothie is my gift to smoothie enthusiasts and skeptics alike. Not gonna lie, I always feel a little lame sharing smoothie recipes, but as any experimental smoothie maker knows, throwing random stuff in a blender does not always yield delicious results. Sometimes, you need a tried and true recipe for smoothie success, so I’m giving you mine. If you follow your weird blog lady on Instagram, you may have noticed that I drink the same dark purple smoothie from my Yeti (no, they have not yet agreed to sponsor me…) approximately 5 times a week. I used to be a tropical smoothie girl, but for the past 6 months or so, this blend of dark sweet cherries, berries, spinach, a little almond butter, and plenty of cinnamon has been my go-to. And banana haters, rejoice!! This vegan, gluten-free, protein-packed wonder is blissfully banana-free. Hallelujah!
For the record, my roommate is also a die-hard fan of this Dude Diet-friendly concoction, and he’s actually the one who gently urged me to share the recipe. If I remember correctly, his exact words were, “You haven’t posted the smoothie on the blog?! Why the fuck not? Give people the money shit!” He’s a poet, but he makes an excellent point. So, here’s the money shit, peeps. I hope you like it.
Moving on to the Internets! Let’s make this all about me, shall we? (Roll with it.)
I’ve been having the best/strangest/most hilarious time on the #dudediettour, and many people have been kind enough to let me hang out on cam-ah-rahhhhh…
I made cheesesteaks and talked Game Day eats on Good Day New York a couple weeks ago.
Then I got to do double video duty in Vail on Good Morning Vail and with The Vail Daily.
And whip up Buffalo Chicken Salad with two excellent Dudes on Kare11 in Minneapolis.
Last but not least, I waxed poetic about Logan and The DD on Low Country Live a couple hours ago!
Oh, and in case you’re sick of my face, watch these people play Ed Sheeran with pipes and pebbles. It’s mesmerizing.
As always, there are infinite things I want to make and eat right now, but the following top my list…
Spring Roll Bowls with Sweet Garlic Lime Sauce are exactly the type of anytime meal I crave on the daily.
Fried Avocado Tacos. Need I say more. I want to put a runny egg on top, serve it with a paloma and call it brunch?
At some point, I will cross “whole roasted cauliflower” off my kitchen bucket list, and Bon Appetit’s version with whipped goat cheese is how I’m gonna do it.
I know most people aren’t down with cooking whole fish, but this Whole Seabream Cooked en Papillote looks so simple and fresh. We can do it!
Baked Chilaquiles with Black Beans and Kale. Dear God, the #yolkporn I could do with this skillet…
Smoky Tortilla Soup is perfect for the winter-spring transition. I plan to top mine with guacamole, which sounds strange, but is actually awesome.
This Creamy Parmesan Garlic Gnocchi speaks to me.
Call me lazy, but I’m not a huge fan of baking my own bread. However, Christina’s Small Batch Focaccia feels doable.
I would kill for someone to make me a yard long of Melissa’s Mambo Taxi, aka “a frozen margarita wrapped in a sangria swirl.”
Have a fabulous weekend, friends. And if you’re in Charleston, please come see me tomorrow (3/4) at Open Door Shop from 11-1pm!

The first time I made this, I thought it was pretty strange and said probably not again; however, I had all that frozen fruit and almond butter so I kept having this for breakfast. Long story short, I’m addicted. Yum.
HAHAHA love to hear this!! Very grateful you gave it a second chance ;).
This smoothie is delicious! Today I tried subbing almond extract for vanilla extract and I liked it even better.
I make often make a variation of this!!! I like to go heavier on the cherries, and add cocoa powder because chocolate for breakfast makes adulting much better.
I could probably live without the spinach in this smoothie, but apart from that it sounds wonderful. I’m always looking for good smoothie recipes. I also checked out a couple of the recipes on your bucket list, and I can see why they are there (the spring roll bowl and the roasted cauliflower). They are now on my bucket list, too. 🙂
