5-Day Detox Plan 2.0

I’m not sure what the weather is like where you are, but it’s officially spring in NYC, and everyone is taking their clothes off. Seriously. On my walk to the grocery store yesterday, I felt like I was on freshman spring break (woohoo!). Bare legs, and backs, and midriffs, oh my! The amount of exposed skin may or may not have to do with the fact that I live a block from The New School and very close to NYU, and most of the people wandering the streets in my ‘hood are coeds, but that’s neither here nor there. The truth is, semi-naked spring is merely a sneak peak/reminder of what’s to come. Fully nude season (aka summer) will be here before we know it, and that means…
It’s 5-Day Detox time!
Last year’s 5-Day Detox Plan went over so well that I decided to put together a second set of detox recipes for your 2016 spring cleansing pleasure. Don’t be scared, friends. This plan is not a crazy crash diet or a gimmicky Goop cleanse, and it won’t leave you starving, homicidal, or strapped for cash. Promise. It’s simply five days of nourishing, real food meals that will make you feel like the smartest, prettiest, most energetic version of yourself. Consider it a jump-start for your healthy lifestyle and wonderland bod.
Below, you’ll find 5 daily detox menus, which I recommend starting on a Monday for the sake of convenience. These menus can be modified to suit your personal tastes and dietary restrictions, and you’re welcome to mix and match meals from any days you like. You should also feel free to swap in your favorite recipes from the original 5-Day Detox, and I’ve included some links to appropriate snacks at the bottom of this post. Since most of the recipes make 2 to 4 servings, I strongly suggest doing this program with your roommate(s), besties, or family members. As a wise man once said, teamwork makes the dream work. YOU GOT THIS.

For those brave souls looking to take their spring cleansing up a notch with a slightly more serious detox, I highly recommend checking out my friend Amie Valpone’s new book Eating Clean: The 21-Day Plan to Detox, Fight Inflammation, and Reset Your Body. Worst cleanse meal: spaghetti squash with an avocado “sauce.” I love both those things individually but together, it is the slimiest meal imaginable.
My recent go to clean meal is oven roasted salmon, cannelini beans, and sauteed dandelion greens
My recent go-to clean meal has been a soup with collards and sweet potato and topped with vegan cheese and sumac. It comes together within 15-20 min and is very satisfying.
PB overnight oats are my favorite from the last cleanse I did. It felt like eating an oatmeal cookie!
fave cleansing meal the shrimp + crema from domesticate-me’s “shrimp tacos w/ chipotle avocado crema”, but instead of served as tacos, put over a bed of spinach (the crema = the dressing!).
My fav “detox” meal is Cook’s Illustrated’s Broccoli Cheddar Soup! Because it uses extra sharp white cheddar, it’s really flavorful and a little goes along way. Aside from the little amount of cheese, it’s basically calorie free! Great meal to slim down, but still eat real food- and SO satisfying!
is pinot grigio off the table? didn’t see any mention of omitting that. if so, how many glasses per day is the limit?
BAHAHA. For maximum effect, I recommend quitting the booze cold turkey for 5 days, but if the grigio is a necessity (no judgement), a single glass as an aperitif or with dinner won’t kill you…
My favorite cleansing meal would have to be the Chipotle Mac and Cheese with Bacon from the Dude Diet. It always make me feel good.
Anything with Quinoa and Avocados
Today’s post is so timely! My daughter and I have been doing LAST year’s 5-day Detox albeit 1/2 heartedly. This new 5-day detox is just boost we need. Today’s lunch is a quinoa salad with baby spinach, halloumi cheese, tomatoes, fresh mint and a lime/sumac/olive oil dressing. So refreshing and ‘cleansing’ (I think?). Monday, 5-day Detox 2.0 commences – YAY!
I tried to “juice” a few weeks ago by drinking a smoothie all day. A smoothie that left me constipated. very, very constipated. So do not only drink Greek yogurt and blueberries. It is an anti-cleanse. I would love to try the clean eating plan so that I don’t run into any more of these snafus.
My latest food obsession came from when I decided to clear out my pantry (I too suffer from food hoarding) and discovered I had quite a few cans of chickpeas and bottles of Frank’s Red Hot. Decided to combine my two loves together and sauteed the chickpeas in Frank’s, mashing a few of them slightly for texture. I’ve been living quite the sassy desk lunch life this week with a lighter Buffalo “chicken” salad. Frank’s is vegan so in my mind that means super healthy. Fingers crossed about the contest, I’ve been wanting to check out “Eating Clean!”
CONGRATS, GIRL! You’re the winner of you very own copy of Eating Clean. When you have a minute, email me at serenawolf@domesticate-me.com with your full name and mailing address, and I’ll send it out ASAP.
p.s. Love me some chickpeas and hot sauce, and I think Buffalo Chickpeas should be a thing. OOOOH maybe Buffalo Chickpea Lettuce Wraps? I will test…
